Lore
Tragedy descended upon the small mining town of Harmony on that ill-fated Valentine's Day. It was a day etched in blood when Tom Hanniger unwittingly triggered a catastrophic collapse, entombing five miners and leaving a sole survivor—Harry Warden. Investigating the calamity, it was revealed that Warden, driven to preserve his own life, had resorted to taking the lives of his comrades. Falling into a coma, Warden awoke a year later, consumed by a vengeful rampage.Clad in his mining gear, Warden sought retribution, claiming the lives of twenty-two men, women, and children before turning his sights on Tom Hanniger himself. Yet, Warden's reign of terror was met with a hail of bullets, his wounded form escaping through one of the mine's hatches and leaving Tom scarred but alive.
Haunted by his ordeal, Tom fled Harmony, only to return years later to find closure. However, upon his return, a new chapter of bloodshed unfurled, casting speculation on Warden's return. Unbeknownst to all but a very select few, the police officers who once shot Harry Warden were responsible for his demise and burial.
As the death toll in Harmony mounted, a noose of suspicion tightened around Tom's neck when it was discovered that he had spent years in a mental institute, battling his own demons. In the depths of the mines, Tom's fractured mind brought forth the incarnation of Harry Warden's malevolence, driving him to attack those who confronted him. But his attempts were thwarted, leaving him wounded and believed to be dead.
Yet, fate conspired to grant Tom a twisted reprieve, his battered body and fractured soul spiraling into the sanctuary of the unforgiving woods, disguised and elusive. Collapsing against a gnarled tree, he gasped for breath, his mind fraught with the fate of his childhood sweetheart. Drenched in blood and filth, a compulsion gripped him, urging him to return and confront the embodiment of his terror—oblivious to the duality that dwelled within him.
As he took faltering steps, Tom's weary body succumbed to exhaustion, collapsing upon the earth's embrace. Darkness consumed him, enveloping his consciousness until he awoke within an enigmatic miasma, familiar surroundings that bore a foreign hue.
Adorned in the vestiges of his predecessor's attire, Tom clutched a bloodied pickaxe, the instrument of slaughter, now an artifact of awakening horror. It slipped from his grasp, falling to the ground as the weight of revelation blurred the lines of his fractured mind. With hands now steady, he reached up to remove the gas mask, inhaling the charged atmosphere.
And so, Tom Hanniger ventured forth, eyes wide open to his own duality.

The Miner comes with 3 Perks that are unique to him:Unhinged Mind

Your obsession becomes fixated on a single survivor. The aura of your obsession is revealed to you for the duration of the trial, and your movement speed is slightly increased while chasing the obsession. Additionally, each time you hit your obsession, you gain a token, up to a maximum of three tokens. Each token increases your movement speed and decreases your terror radius slightly.Bloody Valentine
Your presence leaves a lasting mark on the survivors. After hooking a survivor, their aura is revealed to you for a moderate duration. If they are unhooked by another survivor, their aura is revealed to you for a shorter duration. This effect has a cooldown.Weapon: Pickaxe
The Pickaxe is the Primary Weapon of The Miner. The blood-stained pickaxe inflicts deep wounds, rending flesh and peircing hearts with ease.

However, using his power consumes a resource called "Rage," which gradually depletes over time. To replenish Rage, The Miner must successfully strike survivors with his pickaxe.
SPECIAL ATTACK: Memory Extraction
By hitting a survivor with his pickaxe, Tom can extract a traumatic memory, causing them to experience hallucinations and become disoriented.
SPECIAL ABILITY: Hallucination Trail
After extracting a memory, Tom leaves behind an ethereal trail of hallucinations that survivors perceive as additional vault locations, pallets, or generators. These hallucinations disappear when interacted with, causing survivors to waste precious time and resources.
SPECIAL ABILITY: Valentine's Vendetta
The Miner grabs the survivor by the throat and throws them to the ground. With a vicious swing of his pickaxe, he rends their chest open and rips the heart from their chest, showering the area in a fountain of blood.

— he'd probably be best known as "harry warden", or any of his other aliases, but i'm not picky. if you wanna call him tom, call him tom.
— i play up tom's negative traits in general, but in this dbd au, it's especially dominant because he's easily influenced by harry's rage. tom also has a lot of unresolved anger issues of his own, stemming from the blame he inherited with the mine collapse and what harry did afterward.
— his realm in harmony is focused around hanniger mines, specifically tunnel 5. two levels of tunnels with two main entrances, and two "escapes hatches", which are just smaller entrances/exits. out front is mainly dirt and gravel with a scattering of abandoned vehicles, and mining carts. out back is more wooded with axel's cabin at the edge.
— i like to think that tom would keep his identity mostly hidden ... he'd remove his mask while in his own realm between trials, and general prowls without calling attention to the miner, if he's spotted. but he doesn't care either way, it's more of a force of habit.
— if it helps in any way, i'm more than happy to assume tom arrived with 1 or 2 survivors ( axel and/or sarah ).
